If You Don't Know, Now You Know
- 1 April 2019, BRIAN PERIUS
If You Don’t Know, Now You Know is an interview series with some prominent names in the world of professional wrestling. From wrestlers themselves, to podcasters, to super fans and everyone in between, IYDKNYK is where is it’s at!
Welcome to another installment of If You Don’t Know, Now You Know. Today, I sit down with David Arquette's best friend, RJ CITY!
(editor’s note: The participant’s answers are 100% original and have not been edited in anyway, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation).
Brian Perius: First things first let’s get to know you a little. What’s your name, how old are you, and where are you from?
RJ City: RJ City
62 years young.
And I’m from a good decent loving family.
BP: How were you trained in the art we call wrestling ?
RC: By Jerry Lewis in the Catskills. There was a lot of second hand smoke but I persevered.
BP: How long have you been in the business?
RC: I’m coming up on my bicentennial.
BP: Now let’s get into your career. What can you tell us about your first professional match?
RC: Jerry Lewis beat the shit out of me.
BP: What promotion do you currently work for?
RC: PBS, TCM, TVLand, NPR.
BP: What is the worst injury you have had so far?
RC: My heart has been shattered. Multiple times.
BP: What are some goals you have for this year?
RC: Being managed by Diane Ladd.
BP: Let’s dig a little deeper. What’s one thing you want to accomplish in wrestling before you retire?
RC: Changing the wrestling business for the worse.
BP: Can you tell me one great road story?
RC: There’s a lot of great roads. Route 66 looks like a blast.
BP: What is one misconception people have about you being a professional wrestler?
RC: The yelling. There’s no need to yell. I’m here to lower the volume of the entire industry.
BP: What does wrestling mean to you?
RC: Sweating and yelling.
BP: What’s next for you as far as your career is concerned?
RC: Thinking about becoming a librarian. Again, I can’t deal with the yelling.
BP: And last but not least are there any plugs or shout outs you would like to give?
RC: Absolutely not. Actually, tell Diane Ladd I said hello.
Thank you again for your time, RJ! It was a pleasure! And I'll be sure to pass along your greeting to Diane Ladd next time I see her.
